1. What is this study about?

Answer: The goal of this project is to understand the impact of aerodynamic retrofit on medium-duty vocational vehicle fuel economy in California. The findings of this project will provide better insights on the activities and duty cycles of different vocational vehicles to the State of California, which will help to identify the type of vocational vehicles that could benefit from aerodynamic retrofit. It will also help determine the potentials to encourage the use of aerodynamic improvement devices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the vehicles.

2. What is the purpose of fleet survey?

Answer: The purpose of the fleet survey is to obtain a summary of a fleet operational activity in the past twelve months.

3. What is the purpose of vehicle survey?

Answer: The purpose of the vehicle survey is to obtain vocation, type, operating speed, daily driving distance, duty cycle and such other information of specific vehicles within fleets in California.

4. What are the incentives for the participants?

Answer: There are provisions of incentives that will be awarded to qualifying respondents. A $15 Amazon Gift Card will be sent to survey participants for completing the fleet portion of the survey, and an additional $20 for each completed vehicle for the vehicle portion of the survey generally on a first-come-first-serve basis.

5. How the survey will benefit the society?

Answer: Data collected through the survey will help the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to identify the types and activities of vocational vehicles that could benefit from aerodynamic retrofits, and to determine the potentials for encouraging the use of aerodynamic improvement devices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, fuel consumption, and vehicle operating costs.
